Jonathan Set To Declare For Presidency Under APC, Buhari Reopens 4 Borders / Newhitzgh


 All seems to be set for former President Goodluck Jonathan to officially declare his intention to contest the 2023 presidency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered yesterday that Jonathan may have yielded to pressure from some big wigs of the governing party, close allies of the presidency to join the APC and join the race to clinch the party’s presidential ticket.

Groups and individuals have also been mounting pressure on the former president to contest the 2023 presidential poll


Supporters of the former Nigerian leader, made up of men, women and youths, yesterday morning thronged his Abuja office, insisting that he must declare his intention to run for the 2023 presidency.

Jonathan who was holding a meeting with his committee of friends who visited him at his Foundation office at Taraba Crescent, Maitama, at the time the supporters stormed the place in protest did not categorically tell them that he would declare for the presidency.

Instead, he covertly asked the supporters to watch out, saying the political process was still in progress.

Buhari Regime Reopens Four Additional Borders

President Muhammadu Buhari regime has approved the reopening of four additional Nigerian border posts which were closed in 2019 to check the smuggling of food and other contraband into the nation.

“I am directed to inform you that four additional borders listed below have been approved for re-opening,”partly reads the circular signed by El Edorhe, deputy comptroller-general on behalf of his principal.

The reopened borders include, “Idiroko border post, Ogun State (South-West Zone); Jibiya border post, Katsina State (North-West Zone); Kamba border post, Kebbi State (North-West Zone); Ikom border post, Cross River State (South-South Zone).”

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday said his administration would continue to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that the state remained the safest for the residents.

Sanwo-Olu, who stated this when the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division of Nigerian Army, Major General Umar Musa; the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar; and the Commander, NNS Beecroft of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore A. M. Haruna, led some military officers on a courtesy visit to the Lagos House, Marina.

Ahead of the May 28 Presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Northern elders led by former Military President, Friday, shortlisted former Senate President, Bukola Saraki and governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed in the interim.

In a communique signed by former Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, the Northern leaders said the selection of Saraki and Bala Mohammed was arrived at based on certain criteria adopted in the assessment of the four aspirants who submitted themselves for the exercise.
