Every athlete is guaranteed at least a 40-year period of activity but inevitably of injury and other unforeseen circumstances could cut short a sports man’s career.
Outfield players who are lucky play up until 35-years old are fortunate with goalkeepers being lucky to play up beyond 40-years. One of the Ghanaian players who is still playing is former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Muntari. The 37-year-old plies his trade with Ghana Premier League side, Accra Hearts of Oak - a club he joined until the end of the season. He has won the President Cup with them after leading Hearts to a 2-1 win over rivals, Asante Kotoko.
Another player is former Black Stars right back, Samuel Inkoom who has also joined Hearts of Oak until the rest of the season. It’s even good news for Ghana football, that most of the players who ones played on home soil are returning to relaunch their career. However former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan was unable to glitter at Premier club, Legon Cities FC and has since been clubless.
The former Sunderland striker is yet to officially announce his retirement from the game but has already called time on his international career. It remains to be seen if the former Liberty Professionals striker will soon announce his retirement from the game.
