A veneration of both the high life and Afro-pop genres respectively, the Ghanaian male vocalist who performs under the stage name KiDi happens to be amongst the very few artistes who has been able to secure a spot for himself as one of the internationally critically acclaimed music elites of Ghanaian descent.

Kidi has won the hearts of music lovers both locally and internationally with his numerous stirring singles marked by his mind-blogging choice of lyrics, which forces the audience to listen to his songs and gaze at his live performances in awe.

Early life, parents, and education.

 

Born on August 18th, 1993, Dennis Nana Dwamena, popularly known as KiDi, was born and raised in Accra by both parents, Mr. Gerald Thompson and Mrs. Beatrice Thompson. He attended St. Anthony primary school to receive his kindergarten, primary, and junior high school education.

After completing his J.H.S education, he landed admission into one of the best senior high schools in Ghana at present (Accra Academy). Studies Upon attaining a WASSCE certificate, he advanced his scholastic status quo by studying Economics and Information Studies at Ghana’s premier university (University of Ghana – Legon).

Music Career

  At the age of 5, KiDi started to write and compose stupendous songs, which instinctively made him a prodigy. During his university days, his love and passion for music led him to perform in various night clubs and cafes, most notably at Moonlight Cafe, situated in the country’s capital, Accra.

Aside from that, he also recorded covers for an uncountable number of popular hit songs which were rotationally being played on various radio stations during that period. After he emerged as the winner of the MTN Hitmaker 2015 edition, KiDi pierced into the impenetrable Ghanaian music industry.

In 2017, the name KiDi became a familiar name in the Ghanaian showbiz community after his phenomenal single “Say You Love Me” went viral and garnered unprecedented radio and TV airplay. Songs, albums, and E.Ps with features In 2017, he released “Say You Love Me,” a song he did not only compose but also arrange and produce.

KiDi established himself as one of the fastest rising stars in Ghana when he released yet another chart-topping single titled “Odo” in July of 2017, and did a remix version of it with Nigerian artistes Davido and Mayorkun in December of 2017. self-penned, In 2018, he once again topped all the major music charts in the country with his self-penned, awe-inspiring single dubbed “Adiepena”, on which he later employed Sarkodie as a guest artist on its remix version.

 

In 2019, he released his debut album, dubbed "Sugar,” and went on to release a strikingly magnificent EP this year, titled "BLUE." Kidi has featured heavy-weight musicians including Sarkodie, Medikal, Fameye, and several notable others on a couple of his projects, not forgetting Nigeria’s Davido.

Awards, Nominations, and Achievements


KiDi received 6 nominations at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, including "Best New Artiste", “Afro-pop Song of the Year” and “Male Vocalist of the Year", and went on to win the award for “High-life Song of the Year” at the awards in April 2018. KiDi has mounted several stages, including the 2017 Rapperholic Concert, Ghana Music Honors 2017 Edition, December to Remember 2017, S Concert 2017 and the 61st Ghana Independence Celebration show in March 2018 at the Indigo 02 in London.

KiDi is currently in a love relationship with a Ghanaian-born, U.K.-based lady who’s just known as Juliet. The two have an adorable son together, called Zain.
